ALBANY, NY (04/11/2013)(readMedia)-- The City of Albany and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District (BID) invites the public to the official ribbon cutting for Zachary's Pastry Shoppe at their new downtown Albany, NY location on Wednesday April 17, 2013 at 1:30 PM. Positioned as a satellite shop at 51 State Street, the space compliments their existing business in East Greenbush, New York. Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, Georgette Steffens, Executive Director, BID and the owners of Zachary's Pastry Shoppe are scheduled to speak at the event.
The business, which officially opened in March of this year, is co-owned by Beckie Raymond, her husband Dan Raymond and her two sisters Nancy and Connie Mosher. Since 1990, Zachary's has offered their expertise to the Capital Region starting with their first bakery located in North Albany until 1995.
"We are excited to welcome Zachary's Pastry Shoppe back to the City of Albany," says Albany Mayor Gerald D. Jennings, "Establishments like these are essential for Downtown workers and our expanding residential population."
"We have customers cultivated from our old North Albany location still coming in today," says Beckie, "We had a patron recently visit our new location who remembers taking special trips as a child to our first space in North Albany with her father."
According to the owners, the strategy to open a second location in Downtown was about flipping their marketing perspective on its head.
"We stopped thinking about trying to attract new customers to come across river to discover our business," explains Beckie, "Instead, we made the move to travel across the river and set up shop on State Street to put our baked goods directly in the consumers' hands."
The approach is expected to broaden Zachary's client exposure, specifically those who live, work, and visit Albany's Downtown.
"Zachary's Pastry Shoppe is filling a niche and taking advantage of an untapped market for fresh bakery goods and services previous unavailable in Downtown," suggests Georgette Steffens, "we are excited to welcome them to our Downtown community."
The downtown Albany branch of Zachary's Pastry Shoppe is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, offering a full menu of basked items such as pastries, cakes, cupcakes, as well as lunch items including sandwiches, soups and coffee.
