2013 Brockport Athletic Hall of Fame Class Announced

Largest Class since 1985 to be inducted September 28

BROCKPORT, NY (08/30/2013)(readMedia)-- The College at Brockport Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and the Golden Eagle Society will induct a class of 13 former athletes, coaches and contributors into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 28 as part of the 2013 Homecoming Weekend festivities.

The Class of 2013 includes Cynthia E. "Cindy" Breski '69, Michele Carron '86, Brian J. "Gawner" Gawne '83/'90, Ellen Monaghan Hancock ''88/'97, Anthony Jaworski '05, Donald E. Kwak '63, Christopher S. Monroe '94/'00, Frank Ojeda '92, Kammi Reynolds '92, Kevin Richard '83, William "Bill" Steele '62 and  Rosa La Sorte Rich and George M. Rich.

Breski is best known for her contributions as a player in professional softball leagues in Buffalo and as a coach of several high school and college teams in the Buffalo area. The 1969 Brockport graduate played for the basketball, soccer and softball teams at the college before they were organized as official varsity athletic teams.

Carron was a standout player for the softball team during her short Brockport career but left her mark as a successful softball and basketball coach for the Golden Eagles. She remains the only female coach to earn SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors for two different teams in the same year.

Gawne was a star for both the football and track & field teams at the college graduating with school records in the throwing events. He returned to Brockport to coach some of the best athletes in school history on the track & field teams throughout the 1990's.

Hancock was also a two sport star for the volleyball and softball teams earning All-Star and All-Tournament honors for both sports. The scholar-athlete continues to excel as a physical education teacher in the Rochester City School District.

Jaworski is the most prolific scorer in Brockport men's soccer history as the all-time leader in goals in a game, season and career as well as most points in a game and career.

Kwak was instrumental in the development of an ice hockey club at Brockport that eventually became the varsity team at the college. He went on to become one of the top off-ice officials in the National Hockey League.

Monroe was the top men's soccer player on the all-time scoring list when he graduated in 1994 with many of his records standing for at least a decade. He remains a physical educator and youth coach in the Rochester area.

Ojeda was the top Brockport wide receiver for the football team when he finished his career with some of his records and performances remaining at the top of the list for nearly 20 years and was a 1989 Football Gazette All-American.

Reynolds was the most prolific scorer in Brockport field hockey history graduating with three of the top five all-time marks for goals in a season and graduated as the school record holder points and goals in a season as well as points and goals in a career.

Richard made his mark on the Brockport wrestling team despite a short career helping the Golden Eagles to the 1980 National Championship as he earned the individual national championship title in the 126-pound bracket. He also competed at the 1980 Olympic team trials.

Steele was one of the top scorers in school history as a guard for the basketball team and was just the second 1,000-career point scorer in school history. He went on to start for basketball teams as a member of the United States Air Force after graduating from Brockport.

Rosie and George Rich made their mark on Brockport Athletics from the stands and two of the most ardent supporters of all 23 varsity teams at Brockport. The couple was not only regular attendees at almost every home contest but also provided a shining example to the student-athletes of the importance of giving back to the community through community service projects.

The induction ceremony has been changed from the traditional Saturday evening dinner to a late morning brunch ceremony at 12 pm. The class will participate in the annual Homecoming parade at 4 pm and then be formally introduced at halftime of the Homecoming football game against Alfred that starts at 6 pm.
