WASHINGTON, DC (07/08/2010)(readMedia)-- The 257th Army Band continues its summer tour of the region with two concerts at National Harbor at noon and 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 13. These free performances will feature Big Band and pop music, marches, patriotism and entertainment suitable for all ages. Pack a picnic basket and your lawn chairs and join one of the best bands in the nation.
Warrant Officer Sheila M. Klotz, commander of the Band of the Nation's Capital, has assembled a program that that will entertain audiences of all ages. Hits from the Big Band era as well as the 60s, 70s and 80s, have entertained crowds of more than 30,000 during the band's tour.
Featured soloists include award-winning singer Sgt. Vicki Golding and Air Guard Senior Master Sgt. Ray Wilkerson, who does an excellent rendition of Fly Me to the Moon, made famous by Frank Sinatra.
A special invitation is extended to area veterans and those currently serving in our armed forces. The band always pays tribute to the dedication and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform.
The concert at National Harbor is part of a series of performances by the band. National Harbor is located in Prince George's County, Md., on the Potomac River, just minutes from Washington, DC. It is accessible from I-95/I-495, I-295, the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge, and by water taxi from Washington, DC, Old Town Alexandria, Mount Vernon, and Georgetown.

The 257th Army Band traces its lineage to the legendary Corcoran Cadets, the DC militia that inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his march of the same name. Noteworthy performances include musical support for the Inauguration of President Obama, burial of the Unknown Soldier in 1921, state funerals of Presidents Harding and Kennedy, overseas deployments to Greece and Panama, consecutive appearances at the Great American Brass Band Festival and concert tours throughout New England, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.
The District of Columbia National Guard is closer to the heart of America than any other Guard in the country. They are unique in that they are the only National Guard activated exclusively by the President for war-time deployment or civil emergencies. The DC National Guard has been defending the nation's capital for hundreds of years and today, its units are continuously deploying throughout the globe in support of the war on terror.
