WESTBURY, NY (04/27/2012)(readMedia)-- Target in Valley Stream will close April 28, 2012 at 10:00 PM purportedly to remodel the store for the sale and storage of fresh groceries. This Target location was the site of an important campaign last year by employees to seek union representation by our Union, UFCW Local 1500. Target Corp. has remodeled over 900 stores across the nation since 2009, bringing groceries to the newly remodeled stores. They have never closed a store for a remodel until now. Target currently does not even have a building permit for the store, therefore cannot perform construction.

WHO:

Target workers, retail workers, UFCW Local 1500, big box stores taking advantage of workers' rights

WHAT:

Bringing attention to what other motives Target had for closing the store other than a remodel.  Target is displacing workers out of fear.  These workers deserve a voice, and their story deserves to be told.  Target does not currently have a building permit to perform construction, yet they are closing the store for renovations.
