MONTGOMERY, AL (01/26/2011)(readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard's 111th Ordnance Group (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) out of Opelika is returning from their year-long tour in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn.
A redeployment ceremony for the unit will be held in Opelika at Fort Alfred C. Harrison, 300 Consumer Avenue, at 11 a.m.*, Thursday, January 27, 2011.
In Iraq, the 111th provided command and control for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) battalions as the headquarters for Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Troy, a counter improvised explosive device task force. The 111th was the first and only Army National Guard unit to serve as the CJTF Troy headquarters element. While serving as the CJTF headquarters, the 111th commanded more than 800 Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and civilians, and controlled more than 80 EOD teams.
The general public is invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony to show their support for the 111th Soldiers and their families.
