HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (11/12/2010)(readMedia)-- There will be a joint training exercise with the Alabama National Guard's 46th Civil Support Team, the Huntsville Fire Department and the Huntsville Police Department Nov. 15-17, 2010, at the old West Huntsville Elementary School building, 3100 9th Avenue, Huntsville, Ala. This exercise is designed to familiarize each agency with the capabilities and standards of conduct in response to a potential weapons of mass destruction incident.
Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, local, state and federal agencies have broadened their training exercises to depict various scenarios that encompass the increasing threat to the United States and its citizens.
Terrorist groups continue to upgrade and modify their weapons and attack methods while continuously searching for new and unexpected targets. In light of this, the Alabama National Guard and the city of Huntsville are taking proactive measures to ensure the best working relationship during potential disaster by training together on response procedures.
Members of the media are encouraged to attend portions of the training. To set up a time to visit the exercise, please contact Special Operations Chief Steve Britton of the Huntsville Fire Department at 256-509-3644; Capt.
