Alabama deploys another National Guard unit

The Alabama Army National Guard's 217th Military Police Company, out of Prattville, has been called to active duty in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.

The 217th will have a departure ceremony in Prattville at the Prattville High School Gymnasium, 1315 Upper Kingston Rd, at 11 a.m.., Saturday, May 9, 2015.

The 217th Military Police Company will deploy approximately 124 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to Kuwait, UAE, Oman and Jordan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel. The 217th will conduct Customs Boarder Clearance (CBCA) in the various areas of the Middle East.

The 217th will undergo further training at a mobilization station before deploying later this Spring.

Local officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the 217th. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 22,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
