MONTGOMERY, AL (12/06/2017) (readMedia)-- The Alabama Army National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters Forward Logistics Team Six, out of Montgomery, has been called to active duty.

The specialized logistics team will have a departure ceremony in Montgomery at the Alabama National Guard headquarters building, 1720 Congressman Dickinson Drive, at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017.

The logistics team will deploy approximately 20 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to various locations across Afghanistan to teach, assist and advise the Afghan National Security Forces on logistics as it relates to sustaining a force. They will work with the Ministry of Defense and Ministry of Interior levels of the Afghan government. Each member of the team is highly specialized in their functional area.

The logistics team will conduct some additional training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.

Civilian officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the logistics team. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 24,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
