MONTGOMERY, AL (03/29/2013)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard will celebrate Women's History Month at 10 a.m., April 3, 2013, at the Alabama National Guard headquarters here. The program has a theme of women inspiring a new generation and will have special speakers U.S. Rep. Martha Roby, Alabama National Guard Maj. Gen. Sheryl Gordon, and Col. Judy Dailey.
This observance was organized by the Alabama National Guard's Special Emphasis Program Committee, a group of Alabama National Guard members who volunteer to work with the Alabama Guard's Equal Opportunity office.
Established by the Office of Personnel Management at the direction of presidential and Department of Defense directives, special emphasis programs are designed to eliminate demographic group imbalances in targeted occupations, and to achieve workforce diversity in the National Guard. Federal special emphasis programs were established to assist agencies in assuring that equal opportunity is present in all aspects of employment.
This Women's History Month observance is open to all Alabama National Guard Soldiers, Airmen, civilians and families. Media are also invited to attend.
Because of controlled access on the National Guard installation, any media wishing to attend should coordinate facility access with the Alabama National Guard Public Affairs Office (334-271-7244) no later than 4:30 p.m., April 2, 2013.
