MONTGOMERY, AL (08/27/2012)(readMedia)-- The Alabama National Guard has activated its Domestic Operations Group for planning and coordination with the Alabama Emergency Management Agency in response to the governor's declaration of a state of emergency in preparation for the effects of Tropical Storm Isaac. Many more Alabama Guardsmen are on alert, ready to respond if needed.

The Alabama Guard Emergency Operations Center has been activated and is operating 24 hours a day. We are monitoring the storm, preparing personnel and equipment for possible response and working with the AEMA to ensure that Alabama has a coordinated, appropriate and capable response to Tropical Storm Isaac.

Providing defense support to civilian authorities is a core mission for the Alabama National Guard. The Alabama National Guard conducts hurricane response rehearsals and exercises every year in order to prepare for our number one threat. Our Soldiers and Airman are highly trained, well equipped and ready to respond to assist our fellow citizens in Alabama. We will support AEMA in every way possible during this state of emergency, utilizing our unique capabilities, training and equipment.
