MONTGOMERY, AL (04/17/2020) (readMedia)-- Teams from the Alabama National Guard's newly established Task Force 31 will soon begin disinfecting long-term care facilities as directed by the State of Alabama's Unified Command in Montgomery, Alabama.
Specially trained and equipped National Guard teams will disinfect designated facilities in the ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These teams have been identified and selected based on their unique military training and are well tailored to accomplish this critical mission.
"The Alabama National Guard is here to serve our citizens, and I'm glad Governor Ivey asked us to take on this important mission," said Major General Sheryl E. Gordon, adjutant general of the Alabama National Guard. "Our specially trained Soldiers and Airmen are prepared to assist our communities as we fight the spread of COVID-19 together."
This long-term care facility disinfection mission, and other missions nationwide are just a small example of the more than 33,000 Air and Army National Guard professionals conducting the National Guard's overall response to COVID-19. "We're the perfect people to do this mission. We know these people. There are no such thing as strangers to the National Guard. We're from every community," said Air Force Gen. Joseph Lengyel, chief of the National Guard Bureau. "We are neighbors helping neighbors. We live in the communities we serve."
