The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia are still a few months away but High Peaks Resort is the place to celebrate the excitement and history of the Winter Games sooner.
The public is invited to a free event to see and share memories and memorabilia on Friday, January 17th at High Peaks Resort in Lake Placid. This once-every-four-years event will bring together the people, prizes and products from the 1932 and 1980 Winter Games. Come celebrate our region's rich history and traditions! This festival-style event will feature something for everyone from the collector to the curious onlooker including:
• Antiques appraisers on hand for cash or just curiosity
• Storytelling from regional historians, museum curators and committee planners from the 1980 Winter Games here in Lake Placid
• Show and tell your stories and collectables to the live audience and TV audiences, too!
• A public screening of a rare promotional film for the 1980 Winter Games in Lake Placid
• Dinner and drink specials all night at Dancing Bears Restaurant
• Games, fun and photo opportunities for kids
• And we still have a few surprises up our sleeve, too!
Mountain Lake PBS will also be there to document this exciting event and interview attendees for an upcoming program to air on TV and the web shortly afterward. If you missed your chance at fame in the Winter Games, you might have your fifteen minutes of fame on TV!
