Applications being accepted for Geneva College's Summer Piano Festival
Activities include private piano lessons, music theory classes, computer technology and more for the July 21-25 camp.
BEAVER FALLS, PA (04/11/2014)(readMedia)-- The Geneva College Department of Music will conduct its second annual Summer Piano Festival from July 21-25, 2014. This week-long is designed for piano students in grades K-12 who have had at least six months of private lessons. Students of all levels of playing, from beginners to advanced, are eligible.
Camp runs from 9 a.m. -2 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 4 -7 p.m. on Friday. Activities include daily private piano lessons with Geneva's world class faculty, music theory and history lessons, computer technology application, and a daily master class. At the end of the week, all participants are invited to perform in a recital.
The Summer Piano Festival is directed by Geneva music professor Dr. Sha Wang Luangkesorn, a nationally renowned concert pianist. Dr. Luangkesorn holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, where she was the institution's youngest doctoral graduate. She has been the guest soloist for the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra and Pasadena Pops Orchestra and has appeared on the stages of Aspen Music Festival and School, Interlochen Arts Academy and other major summer festivals throughout the country. As a collaborative pianist, she has performed with artists such as pianist Lang Lang, violinist Kun Dong of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra; soprano Tamara Wilson of the Houston Opera; and the members of Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.
Tuition for the Summer Piano Festival is $185, plus an additional $20 application fee. In addition to the daily activities, participants receive a t-shirt, goodie bag, music supplies, snacks and other incidentals. Lunches are available for an additional $25; however, all participants are welcome to bring their own.
Due to limited space, only the first 18 qualified applicants will be accepted. All applications are due by Monday, June 30.
Those interested in participating must complete an application, parental consent and photo release Form. Completed documents may be emailed to shawang@geneva.edu. Or they may be mailed along with the $20 application fee, made payable to Geneva College, to Geneva College Summer Piano Festival, Attn: Dr. Sha Wang Luangkesorn, 3200 College Avenue, Beaver Falls, PA 15010.
