Judge Cheryl Lynn Allen to receive the 2015 Geneva College Serving Leader Award
The award will be presented Thursday, April 23 during the annual Serving Leader Conference.
BEAVER FALLS, PA (04/15/2015)(readMedia)-- Geneva College is proud to name Judge Cheryl Lynn Allen as the 2015 Geneva College Serving Leader Award recipient for exemplifying the principles of serving leadership. This honor is awarded annually during the Serving Leader Conference, which is being hosted this year at Pittsburgh Marriott North in Cranberry Township on Thursday, April 23.
Judge Allen was elected to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania in November 2007 after serving in the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County in both the Criminal and Juvenile Divisions since 1990. The Pittsburgh native began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, she worked as an attorney for Neighborhood Legal Services, the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission, and the Allegheny County Law Department. She was also an Associate Professor at Point Park University from 2001-2006.
Judge Allen has volunteered extensively throughout her career. She currently serves on the boards of the Women's Choice Network, Hosanna House, Waynesburg University Board of Trustees and the National Regional Church CARE Advisory Board. She is a former Board Member of Child Watch and Court Appointment Special Advocates (CASA), Pittsburgh Leadership Foundation, and Cornerstone Television.
In addition, Judge Allen has been instrumental in the creation and implementation of treatment programs such as the Academy's Alternative Summer School Program and the Alternative to Detention program through Youth Enrichment Services. She also worked with the Juvenile Law Project to implement the Birth Parent Mentoring Program. Judge Allen has received numerous awards and recognition for her efforts on behalf of children and families.
The Serving Leader Conference is co-led by Dr. Jim Dittmar, Director of the Master of Science in Organizational Leadership (MSOL) program at Geneva College, and Dr. Stahl-Wert, author of The Serving Leader, and director of the Center for Serving Leadership, which is producing the conference. At each conference, 500 attendees receive practical teaching and application of serving leadership principles in the workplace and all areas of life.
