Dr. D.C. Schindler to Visit Geneva for Annual Bitar Lecture Series
The John Paul II Institute professor of metaphysics will present free lectures on March 25 and 26, 2015.
BEAVER FALLS, PA (03/09/2015)(readMedia)-- Dr. D.C. Schindler will be speaking on March 25 and 26, 2015 for Geneva College?s Dr. Byron I. Bitar Memorial Lecture in Philosophy, an annual event since 2004. Geneva College will host the renowned speaker for a public lecture series titled "A Pre-Modern Response to the Post-Modern 'Lonely Mind.'"
The first lecture, "Knowledge as Personal Presence," will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25 in John White Chapel of Old Main. Dr. Schindler's second lecture, "Freedom as the Gift of Self," will take place at the same time and location on the following day, Thursday, March 26.
Dr. Schindler is Associate Professor of Metaphysics and Anthropology at the John Paul II Institute in Washington, D.C. He also helped develop an interdisciplinary program of study in the Humanities Department at Villanova University, where he taught for 12 years. He is an editor of Communio: International Catholic Review, a French and German translator of works in philosophy and theology, and the author of several books, the latest being The Catholicity of Reason.
Dr. Schindler received his B.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and a Master's in Sacred Theology from the John Paul II Institute. He holds an additional M.A. and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America.
Dr. Jonathan J. Sanford will serve as Respondent to Dr. Schindler's lectures. He is a professor of Philosophy and the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Franciscan University of Steubenville. He received his doctorate from the University of Buffalo, State University of New York, under Jorge J. E. Gracia. Dr. Sanford seeks to bring his expertise in ancient and medieval philosophy, particularly the thought of Aristotle and Aquinas, to bear on contemporary problems.
The Dr. Byron I. Bitar Memorial Lecture in Philosophy is endowed by the William C. Kriner Family in memory of Geneva College?s beloved professor of a quarter-century, in order to continue his legacy and vision for philosophy.
