Commencement at Geneva College

BEAVER FALLS, PA (04/13/2015)(readMedia)-- As the spring semester comes to a close, Geneva College seniors in the traditional undergraduate, master's degree and adult degree programs are finishing up their studies and preparing for graduation. Commencement ceremonies for these graduates will be held Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9.

Commencement events begin with a baccalaureate service on Friday, May 8 at 7 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse. Dr. Robert Frazier, Professor of Bible, Christian Ministry and Philosophy, will provide the message.

Traditional undergraduate commencement will be Saturday, May 9 at 10 a.m. at Reeves Field, weather permitting. Pastor Kent Chevalier will deliver the commencement address.

Pastor Chevalier is a Pittsburgh native. He graduated from Geneva College in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts in Community Ministry and expects to complete his Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School this year. Since 2006, Chevalier has worked for North Way Christian Community, an inter-denominational church with five campuses across the city of Pittsburgh. He is currently North Way's Wexford Campus Pastor. His desire is for the more than 2,500-member campus to be a close-knit loving community by teaching people the importance of discipleship.

During undergraduate commencement, the "Life G," Geneva?s highest alumni honor, will be presented to Paul Haynie. The "Life G" is presented each year to a graduate for service above self, who embodies the principles for which Geneva College stands, and whose efforts on behalf of the College, the community, and the nation have been exemplary. Haynie has been a volunteer for Geneva College's Office of Institutional Advancement since 1990. He served as a treasurer or board member of numerous community service organizations.

An outdoor reception for the graduates and their families will immediately follow on the lawn of Old Main.

In the case of inclement weather, undergraduate commencement will be moved indoors to Metheny Fieldhouse, and tickets will be required to enter. Graduate and adult education commencement will take place on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse, rain or shine. Dr. Ralph Phillips, the Assistant Dean of Adult and Continuing Education and an Associate Professor of Adult Education at Geneva College, will be the featured speaker. He holds a Master of Divinity from Westminster Seminary, a Master of Arts in Professional Psychology from Geneva College, and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh.

A reception on the lawn of Old Main will follow the graduate and adult commencement ceremony.
