INDEPENDENCE OH (01/19/2012)(readMedia)-- A team from the Beachwood Fire Department is participating in the American Lung Association's 2nd Annual Fight For Air Climb at Cleveland's Terminal Tower on Saturday, March 3.
Joining wwith other climbers, walkers, runners, and firemen from many cities and supporters of the American Lung Association, the Beachwood team will tackle Terminal Tower's 42 flights of stairs, which is 804 steps.
The Beachwood team will be wearing their firefighting gear including boots, turnout coat and pants which are lined, helmet, gloves and SCBA harness with cylinder. They will also be raising money to help support the ALA mission of promoting lung health and preventing lung disease in Northeast Ohio.
The team, which currently consists of Lincoln Coverdale, Don Coyne, Mike Holtzman and Andrew Spisak, hopes more of their colleagues will be joining them on their trek up the steps and at the after-party sponsored by the Tower 230 Bar and Grille
Lung diseases such as asthma and COPD cannot yet be cured, but they can be managed. Making sure people know what's needed to take control of these lung diseases is one of the American Lung Association's top priorities. 35 million Americans are living with chronic lung diseases such as asthma, lung cancer and COPD. Lung cancer is America's #1 cancer killer.
Sign-ups for the climb are well underway, but space is still available for teams or individuals. The event is not limited to firefighters.
Registration for the Fight for Air Climb is $25.In addition, participants raise a minimum of $100 in pledges and can quality for a variety of incentive prizes based on the amount of money they raise.
