Becky Fabiano Named Athlete of the Week
Pole Vaulter wins SUNYAC Championship
BROCKPORT, NY (05/11/2011)(readMedia)-- Junior pole vaulter Becky Fabbiano (Lockport, NY/Lockport) chose a great time to post her personal-best outdoor track and field performance. Fabbiano cleared 11 feet, 1 3/4 inches (3.40 meters) during this weekend's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship meet to claim her first outdoor track and field championship.
Fabbiano was named The College at Brockport's Female Athlete of the Week.
Competing against the best pole vaulters in the SUNYAC, Fabbiano came out and cleared 3.40 meters to win by five and 3/4 inches over the runners-up. It was Fabbiano's fifth straight week winning the pole vault title, and also the fifth consecutive week that Fabbiano has posted a season-best performance.
Her winning effort was .30 meters farther than her season-opening performance of 3.10 meters during the University of Rochester Invitational, held April 9 at Rochester.
Fabbiano's SUNYAC-winning performance was good enough to qualify her for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships, May 19-20 at Moravian (PA) College.
