DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2023) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Bev Michael of Cedar Falls as an Iowan of the Day for the 2023 Iowa State Fair.
Bev Michael is dedicated to serving her community. Since 1994, the Sartori Memorial Hospital alone has recorded 6,250 volunteer hours that Bev has contributed. She is well known at some of the Sartori events such as chairing the annual May Breakfast and helping in the Sturgis Falls Medic Tent. She has managed the gift shop, coordinated blood drives and chaired the teen volunteer committee. Bev has served as the president of the Hospital Auxiliary, has held a seat on the Iowa Hospital Auxiliary Board and has co-chaired the Sartori Festival of Trees fundraiser for a number of years.
Outside of the hospital, Bev also finds time to give to other organizations. She has spent time as an usher at the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, volunteered as a host at the Cedar Falls Visitors and Tourism Bureau, worked with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Waterloo Center of the Arts, Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and coordinated efforts by her church to bake cookies for the overnight RAGBRAI guests in Cedar Falls. Bev plays a significant role in Western Home Communities as a volunteer where she served nearly ten years as the chair of the Friends of Western Home Communities. The amount of time she has spent serving so many different organizations is truly remarkable and she is an inspiration to many.
Bev's day of recognition will be Friday, August 18 at the 2023 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 12:00 PM. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she will receive a gift bag, Grandstand Concert tickets, use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart, a cash prize, Iowa State Fair admission tickets, and VIP parking.
