Bonsell Named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week

Wayne Bonsell earned NJAC Player of the Week and Brockport Athlete of the Week for his performance against Cortland

BROCKPORT, NY (10/21/2013)(readMedia)-- Sophomore quarterback Wayne Bonsell threw for over 300 yards and completed five touchdown passes tying a school record for TD passes in a game as he led The College at Brockport Football team to a 49-32 victory over Cortland Saturday night. His performance earned him the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Offensive Player of the Week award, as well as Brockport Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 19.

Bonsell was inserted into the starting lineup two weeks ago and has led the Golden Eagles to consecutive NJAC victories over William Paterson and Cortland. In two games, Bonsell has completed 63% of his passes (39-for-62) for 555 yards and six touchdowns for a quarterback efficiency rating of 157.13.

Against Cortland, he connected Nick Prince (Hilton, NY/Hilton) on a 13-yard TD, Darryl Thompson (Rochester, NY/Marshall) on a 35-yard scoring play, Jake Spalik (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) on a 23-yard strike and Eric Malave (Brooklyn, NY/Canasarie) on TD plays of 7 and 24 yards. The five TD passes in a game ties a school record with three other quarterbacks that have accomplished the feat seven times in the past five years. He finished the game 22-for-34 for 315 yards.
