Breath of Life Gala promises "The Royal Treatment"

American Lung Association recognizes UK HealthCare's Dr. Joseph B. Zwischenberger as the first Lung Health Champion

LOUISVILLE KY (09/29/2010)(readMedia)-- Breath of Life Gala – "The Royal Treatment" is an evening of "medieval madness" filled with food, music and fundraising. This event is sponsored by UK HealthCare.

It all takes place Friday, October 15th, at 6:30 PM at the majestic CastlePost in Versailles, KY. Guests begin the evening perusing the silent auction, while enjoying hors d' oeuvres, open wine bar, and live music by Madison Avenue.

Later in the evening, emcee Bill Meck (chief meteorologist LEX18) will give attendees a warm welcome as the American Lung Association presents the first ever Kentucky Lung Health Champion Award. This award will be presented to Dr. Joseph B. Zwischenberger, Johnston-Wright Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of Kentucky. Dr. Zwischenberger is leading the fight for air in Kentucky through his dedication to improving the quality of life for those suffering from lung disease with his research and development on the artificial lung transplant. The ALA is proud to honor Dr. Zwishchenberger's accomplishments toward improving lung health.

Following the awards presentation, the live auction will begin at 9:30 PM.

Tickets are $150 per person and include valet parking. Reservations are requested by October 11th. Various levels of sponsor tables are also available.

This annual event benefits the American Lung Association in Kentucky and its mission to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. Lung disease is the third leading cause of death in the United States today. Smoking, air pollution, and lung disease make breathing difficult for millions of Americans.

Monies raised from the Breath of Life Gala will help fund medical research, advocacy and education to ensure clean air and healthy lungs for all Kentuckians.
