Brian Gildemeyer Named Outstanding Senior Athlete
BROCKPORT, NY (05/17/2012)(readMedia)-- The College at Brockport has announced the winner of the first-ever George M. Rich Outstanding Senior Athlete award. Brian Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) of the men's soccer team has been selected as the first recipient of the award.
Gildemeyer, a four-year member of the Golden Eagles, is a dual major in Meteorology and Water Resources/Hydrology with a minor in Environmental Studies and has a cumulative GPA of 3.47. The senior was named to the Third-Team All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) team this year after helping lead the team to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, the team's third straight trip to the tournament.
Over his career, Gildemeyer has accrued numerous athletic and academic awards and honors. Gildemeyer was named team Rookie of the Year and most improved during his junior season. Gildemeyer is most recognized on the field for his acrobatic flip-throw. Of the 77 games the Golden Eagles played over the last four seasons, Gildemeyer started 71 of them. Gildemeyer was part of a defense that posted 34 shutouts and outscored the team's opponents by 63 goals over his four seasons.
Off the field, Gildemeyer served as Vice President of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) and as a member of the Brockport Intercollegiate Athletics Board. Gildemeyer was a member of the Brockport men's club gymnastics team that finished second at the USAG Men's College Collegiate Championship and was nominated as Club of the Year at Brockport. The senior also volunteered as an assistant for the 2012 NCGA Brockport Women's Gymnastics National Champions. The senior was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic team and the SUNYAC Commissioner's List and has volunteered many hours at multiple community service projects such as a coach for the Junior Eagles, the Brockport Clothing Shelf, and organizing a blood drive.
The George M. Rich Outstanding Senior Athlete Award is given to a four year student-athlete who is involved in community service and is a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while demonstrating outstanding sportsmanship, citizenship, ethical conduct and leadership throughout their career beyond what is generally expected of student-athletes at Brockport.
