Bryce Klatsky of Westbury Earns Academic Recognition at Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (07/21/2011)(readMedia)-- Bryce Klatsky, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.

He is the son of Scott and Christa Klatsky of Westbury.

Klatsky received a B.A. degree magna cum laude with honor in history at Skidmore's 100th commencement.

He also received two academic prizes: the Lee History Prize, presented annually to an outstanding student in English or European history; and the Barbara Gruntal Allen '35 Prize, named in memory of an alumna and presented annually to a student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of voice and who has made a considerable contribution to the furtherance of musical activities at Skidmore.

During his Skidmore career, Klatsky was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement. He also was elected to membership in the Alpha Delta Tau Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the international honor society in history.

He earned high honors for academic work completed during the spring semester.

Toward the end of the spring semester Klatsky learned that he had received a teaching assistantship that will allow him to teach high school students in Waibhofen an der Ybbs, near Salzburg, Austria in the next year. A history major and English literature minor with a strong interest in classical music, he is eagerly looking forward to the experience and hopes that he will also have a chance to pursue his love of music while there, perhaps by joining a local choir.

Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
