Building & Construction Trades Issue Early Endorsement For Sheehan

Leaders from capital district trade unions issue nod for mayoral hopeful

ALBANY, NY (06/07/2013)(readMedia)-- At their weekly meeting held on Monday, the Greater Capital Region Building & Construction Trades Council voted to issue an endorsement in the race for Mayor of Albany. This rare early endorsement decision included a process that spanned several meetings and required consent from a super-majority of affiliated organizations to suspend the Council's rules of procedure which bar them from endorsing in a Primary Election contest.

Following several in-person interviews with the candidate, delegates from 17 different affiliated local Trade Unions representing over 22,000 construction workers agreed to issue an early endorsement for City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan in her bid to replace outgoing Mayor Gerald D. Jennings.

"Kathy Sheehan has shown us that she has what it takes to tackle the tough issues facing Albany and help create good, local jobs in the skilled trades and beyond," said President Jeff Stark following the vote. "She has made it clear to us, both as City Treasurer and in our interviews, that she is committed to fighting for the working class. I'm very proud to announce our support for her campaign."
