Cameron Johnson Named Athlete of the Week

BROCKPORT, NY (04/19/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Cameron Johnson (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) helped The College at Brockport's outdoor track and field team win both the 400 and 1,600 meter relays during Sunday's Brockport Golden Eagles Track and Field Invitational. Johnson is Brockport's Male Athlete of the Week.

On a windy, snowy day of competition at Brockport's Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium, Johnson helped the Golden Eagles' 4-by-100 meter relay team win the event in 43.43 seconds, 0.11 seconds faster than runner-up Mohawk Valley Community College. That performance was good enough to qualify the Golden Eagles' relay team for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.

Johnson also helped Brockport's 4-by-400 relay team capture the title in 3:53.08, a full 17 seconds clear of the second-place squad from Alfred State. Johnson also placed second in the 400 hurdles, running in 58.41 seconds.

Earlier in the week, Johnson was honored by the Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education's (KSSPE) as its President's Citation Nominee, and he also was the recipient of the Ruth A. Garis Award.
