Centreville National Guard unit to deploy Soldiers

MONTGOMERY, AL (01/07/2016)(readMedia)-- An element of the Alabama Army National Guard's 129th Area Support Medical Company, out of Centreville, has been called to active duty.

The group will have a departure ceremony in Centreville at Fort I. Judson Snead Armory, 185 Walnut Street, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016.

The company will deploy approximately 19 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The Soldiers will provide medical and dental health care in various locations to units located in their area of operations. The primary focus will be on ground ambulance evacuation with the command cell providing command and control oversight of multiple troop medical clinics. The dentist and dental technician in the group will provide emergency and routine dental care from the closest combat support hospital.

The Soldiers of the 129th will continue to undergo extensive training at a mobilization station before deploying overseas.

Local officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, will attend the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the 129th Area Support Medical Company. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend to show their support for the Soldiers and their families.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 22,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation's National Guard organizations.
