NEW YORK, NY (09/14/2022) (readMedia)-- Today, in response to news that the New York State Board of Regents ruled in favor of new regulations requiring private schools to teach secular education, Susan Lerner, executive director of Common Cause/NY, put out the following statement:
"The Board of Regents ruled correctly: private schools have a legal obligation to provide adequate secular education to their students. Now, local jurisdictions, like New York City, must effectively and even-handily enforce these regulations - and not pass the buck like they've done in years prior. New Yorkers are watching."
