Common Cause/NY Statement on Unfinished State Budget

ALBANY, NY (05/05/2025) (readMedia)-- Today, as the New York State budget remains unfinished despite being over a month late, Common Cause New York Executive Director Susan Lerner issued the following statement:

"The state budget is already over a month late, and yet we still have no idea what is actually in it. The rumors that have circulated indicate that all of the attention in "budget" negotiations has been focused on the Governor's political wishlist and not on fiscal matters. While Governor Hochul is celebrating her self-proclaimed agreement, the reality is that there are just 21 days left of the regular session and Albany has made almost no progress to address the pressing issues facing everyday New Yorkers. New Yorkers cannot afford continued inaction from lawmakers - especially with the spectre of federal budget cuts that threaten to hurt families across the state. It's time for the Governor to get back to work and start passing laws like voters elected her to."
