ALBANY, NY (05/07/2010)(readMedia)-- The New York Capital Region Chapter of the American Marketing Association (NYCRAMA) will host a luncheon presentation on May 13 at the Italian American Community Center in Albany. Guest speaker Susanna Opper, founder of Shawenon Communications, will discuss "Marketing a Company of One: Building an Authentic Personal Brand."

Many people assume a personal brand is just for celebrities or solo entrepreneurs. Not so. Consider the economy over the last 18 months: how many people have gone from climbing the corporate ladder to being laid off, downsized or otherwise turned upside down – and suddenly found themselves back in the job hunt, perhaps after many years?

The current average tenure in a job is about four years. And the generation that's now entering the work force knows that a personal brand will be more enduring than any one corporate workplace. Whether a job change is chosen or forced, workers need to quickly and successfully market themselves in order to gain a foothold in today's competitive job market. That means building a personal brand that will define and differentiate you.

At NYCRAMA's May 13 luncheon, Susanna Opper will show why it's essential for everyone – whether you're just beginning your career, own your own business, or are gainfully employed – to create a personal brand. She'll take attendees through the steps needed to build a personal brand that's authentic, leverages social media tools and positions you for success.

Opper has been communicating online since the medium's inception. She founded Shawenon Communications in 2002, which specializes in electronic communications, including e-zines and other forms of e-mail marketing, web site content and social media. Opper's book, Technology for Teams: Enhancing Productivity in Networked Organizations, was published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in 1992. She holds an MBA in Management and Marketing from New York University's Stern School of Business and is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Brown University.

SPECIAL OFFER! At the luncheon, Opper will provide a planning worksheet for building a personal brand. Attendees will have the opportunity to send their completed planning worksheet to Opper, and receive a free 30-minute phone consultation.
