ALBANY, NY (08/29/2007)(readMedia)-- Capital Communications Cares Foundation is proud to announce the successful delivery of more than 200 backpacks filled with school supplies to children in need throughout the Capital District.
For the fifth consecutive year, the Capital Communications Cares Foundation, established by Capital Communications Federal Credit Union in 2003, generously supported children in grades K-12 with school supplies to help them start the school year off on the right foot.
“We have always believed that it is our responsibility to meet more than just the banking needs of those who live in the communities that we serve,” said Paula Stopera, President/CEO of Capital Communications and Chairperson of the Foundation Board. “The goal of our backpack program is to reach out to underprivileged children with the hope that we can help them be more prepared for their first day of school. Those kinds of initiatives are at the very core of community banking.”
For the second year in a row, the Credit Union’s Teen Youth Group was put in charge of the backpack program which involved buying, organizing and delivering the backpacks and school supplies to local shelters and organizations including Marillac Family Shelter, Equinox Youth Shelter, St. Catherine’s Center for Children, Girls Inc. and Joseph’s House & Shelter. The teen group consists of Justin Silverman, Colonie High School, Ryan Phillips, Shaker High School, Stephanie Anglesey, Columbia High School, Lauren McCormick, entering Union College and Nicole McCormick, entering Siena College.
“The Youth Group is made up of Credit Union members who were eager to get more involved in their community,” said Robert Bascom, Foundation Coordinator. “The project can be just as rewarding for them as it is for those children who received a backpack.”
The Foundation was established in 2003 as an extension of the efforts Capital Communications Federal Credit Union was already making to provide support for educational endeavors, community enrichment and children’s causes.
