BEAVER FALLS, PA (07/13/2012)(readMedia)-- A group of young people with the Jett Foundation (a national non-profit committed to finding a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy) are cycling through eight states on their four week journey.
"Geneva College is looking forward to hosting the JettRide cyclists when they come through Beaver County on Monday, July 23," said Geneva's director of student development, Dr. Mike Loomis. "We are pleased to be able to support such a worthy cause."
The cyclists travel from Minnesota to New Jersey in an effort to raise money and awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne)-the most common lethal disorder diagnosed during childhood today. The ride also gives a voice to the riders, most of whom have a sibling living with Duchenne. The JettRide allows them to bond with one another while trying to improve quality and care for their brothers.
"Our JettRiders set out to cross the country with the same determination that those touched by Duchenne show on a daily basis. We are very excited to once again organize this amazing journey." said Jett Foundation Executive Director Christine McSherry. "Jett Foundation provides the opportunity; it is the riders who make the impact by challenging themselves and challenging Duchenne."
The group will be biking for four weeks, traveling through eight states, 15 cities and numerous towns, logging 1,500 miles raising awareness and urgently needed funds while uniting families and communities affected by Duchenne nationwide. The youths reside in various states from all across the country and come united as one to participate in the JettRide. In order to participate in the trip, each rider raised at least $4,000 to help fund the trip costs and Duchenne research efforts nationwide. The website for this event is www.JettRide.org.
Based in Kingston, MA, the Jett Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing worldwide awareness of Duchenne muscular dystrophy with the purpose of raising and appropriating funds for research that will realize a cure for the disease and ensure that affected children will have the opportunity to enjoy a full life. After nine years of steady progress in the fight against this progressive neuromuscular disorder, the Jett Foundation is known throughout the country as a leader, funding promising research totaling over $2 million and as a strong advocate in this battle against Duchenne.
