DC National Guardsmen to deploy in support of Operation Enduring Freedom

"Capital Guardians" answer the call to serve overseas

WASHINGTON, DC (04/17/2015)(readMedia)-- A send off ceremony for soldiers of the District of Columbia Army National Guard's 276th Military Police Company will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, at the D.C. Armory - 2001 E. Capital Street, Washington, D.C. 20003.

The D.C. National Guardsmen will deploy for nine months to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

While overseas, the D.C. National Guard Soldiers will assist in managing the Theater Field Detention Facility. Their mission will include a range of detainee operations: providing for the care and detention of, and coordinating transportation, of U.S. prisoners in the region.

This deployment follows an earlier deployment of a team of 35 276th Guardsmen in August. The group deploying now will replace the group which deployed in August. The current team of deployers will be trained for the mission by the initial team of deployers.

The 276th Military Police Company was previously called to Active Duty service in 2003 to perform security operations at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, formerly Bolling Air Force Base, Washington, D.C.
