CLEARWATER, FL (04/27/2011)(readMedia)-- On Wednesday, April 20, Dan Wood, Executive Director for the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) spoke in student body chapel, conferred with CCC coaches, met with President Stratton, and presented a workshop to student-athletes. Upon the personal invitation from CCC athletic director, James Whitaker, Mr. Wood was pleased to visit campus and present the mission statements of the NCCAA.
"I wanted our college family to meet [Dan Wood] and to hear his heart for the NCCAA and Christian college athletics," said James Whitaker. "It was great to spend time with Dan and share with him our heart and philosophy for athletics here at CCC as we partner with the NCCAA. Our missions are very similar in what we desire to do at the college, both as an institution and through athletics."
According to the NCCAA website, they believe that athletics are a means to an end, not an end in themselves; that the process of athletics is as important as the performance; and that the person (student-athlete) is more important than the program. In addition to being an athletic organization, the mission of the NCCAA is to promote character and biblical Christianity through four components laid out in their "Game Plan for Life"-a character model based upon God's word. For more information about the Game Plan for Life, please visit www.thenccaa.org/gameplan4life.html.
Student athletes that attended the afternoon workshop were presented a t-shirt with the Game Plan for Life logo and a medallion that will remind them of the NCCAA's commitment to developing excellence, love, integrity, and faith.
"It was a tremendous day and a real joy to have Dan here on our campus," said James Whitaker. "I wanted [Dan Wood] to be able to see CCC, but I also wanted our college family to have exposure to Dan, the NCCAA, and what they are all about."
