Donald Bries Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/25/2017) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Donald Bries of Dubuque as an Iowan of the Day for the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

Helping others and creating opportunities to better the lives of the Dubuque community is what Donald loves to do. Boy Scouts, Cubs Scouts, the Knights of Columbus and the Special Olympics are just a few of the organizations Donald is very active in. Donald has been a Cubs Scout leader and a Boy Scouts Scoutmaster for more than 20 years. He has volunteered much of his time planning for and hosting Boys and Cub scouts on camping trips.

The Knights of Columbus in Dubuque has been blessed with Donald's time and generosity, as he is Grand Knight of Council 5513. He headed up the annual Tootsie Roll campaign to raise money for special needs children and organized Knights of Columbus camporees. Donald is also a member of the Knights of Columbus Dubourgh Assembly, where he holds a leadership position and organized an Honor Guard for Honor Flight Veterans.

Donald continues serving his community by volunteering for the Dubuque Special Olympics the past 15 years. He has also volunteered his time for the Key City Sams camping club, serving meals for the Olympians during the Special Olympics and completing community service projects. You'll also find Donald and his wife entertaining residents of the local nursing home by performing country dance routines with the All Stars Country Dancers.

"Everyone knows that if there is a project that needs to be done, we can give it to Don and he will see it to completion," says nominator Ralph Jasper.

Donald's day of recognition will be on Saturday, August 12 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:30 P.M. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.
