Forestville family's home to get 'Military Makeover'

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MD (04/27/2016)(readMedia)-- On Saturday morning, a team of military-trained electricians, plumbers, heating and ventilation specialists and command staff of the 113th Wing, District of Columbia Air National Guard, will make vital repairs to the home of a needy family in Forestville, Md. As part of Prince George's County Christmas in April program, approximately 20 D.C. Air National Guard Airmen will lend their time, energy, hard work and talents to help restore dignity, safety and warmth to the Prince George's County homeowner who is unable to make repairs on their home. "We strive to be good neighbors and positive role models within the community and many of our Airmen and their families are part of the Prince George's County community, so we have a vested interest in its well-being," said Senior Master Sgt. Sterlin Wilson, 113th wing project manager. "Training is a foundation for everything we do and hands-on experience like this home makeover prepares our Airmen should we find ourselves remodeling or building facilities in deployed locations around the world." During the daylong renovation project, Airmen will clean the interior, paint, perform electrical work, caulk, do yard work, remove and install a new dishwasher, ceiling fan and garbage disposal and conduct roofing and gutter repairs. While members of the D.C. Air National Guard will be working on one particular home in Prince George's County, they will be joining over 3,000 community volunteers tackling 81 homes as part of the County's Christmas in April Program. Christmas in April works to conduct repairs to the homes of senior citizens who are either low-income and/or physically challenged, so they may live in warmth, safety, and independence.
