Former Titans Standout Chris Sanders Headlines Lung Association's Christmas Parade Float

NASHVILLE, TN (12/01/2009)(readMedia)-- As the 2009 chairperson for Tennessee's Christmas Seals campaign, former National Football Leaguer and Titans wide receiver Chris Sanders will take center stage against lung disease this Friday on the American Lung Association's float in Nashville's annual Christmas Parade.

WHAT:

This year's float, which will feature a scene reminiscent of a traditional Christmas Seal, is a first for Sanders and for the American Lung Association, who welcome the opportunity to raise awareness about good lung health. Sanders, currently a counselor at Montgomery Bell Academy, will be joined on the float by several MBA students.

WHEN AND WHERE:

Friday, December 4, 2009 7:00 PM CST

Parade begins at 8th and Broadway and heads east to 2nd Avenue, then follows Woodland Street Bridge to the Coliseum


WHY:

For more than 100 years, the American Lung Association's annual Christmas Seals campaign has supported the fight for healthy lungs and healthy air. Begun in 1907 to fight tuberculosis, today's campaign helps fund research, advocacy and education geared at stopping lung cancer, COPD, asthma and other lung health threats.

ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND:

  • Lung disease is the third leading cause of death nationwide today.
  • In Tennessee alone, more than 785,000 children and adults suffer from some form of lung disease.
  • The number of children and adults in Tennessee who have lung disease would fill Nashville's LP Field stadium more than 11 times.
