Chief Warrant Officer Sheila M. Klotz, commander of the 257th, has assembled a program that will inspire patriotism as well as bring the spirit of the season to audience members of all ages. Patriotic fare, Christmas and holiday classics as well as some unique features will be the highlights of this Washington-area tradition.
The 257th and its award-winning vocalists and musicians has a proud history going back to an organizational lineage that includes the legendary Corcoran Cadets, the DC militia which inspired John Philip Sousa to compose his march of the same name. Noteworthy performances include musical support for the Inauguration of President Obama, burial of the Unknown Soldier in 1921, state funerals of Presidents Harding and Kennedy, overseas deployments to Greece and Panama, appearances at the Great American Brass Band Festival and concert tours throughout New England, Texas and the Mid-Atlantic.
Although centrally located among the finest military bands in the world, the 257th Army Band remains the only organization officially recognized as The Band of the Nation's Capital.
The DC National Guard is closer to the heart of America than any other Guard in the country. It is unique in that it is the only National Guard activated exclusively by the president for war-time deployment or civil emergencies. The DC National Guard has been defending the nation's capital for hundreds of years and today, its units are continuously deploying around the globe.
