BEAVER FALLS, PA (06/30/2011)(readMedia)-- Geneva College congratulates Baja Competition members for a strong showing at this year's competition in Peoria, Illinois. "While we were a very small team this year, we gave much larger universities a run for their money and beat out a lot of them," says Dr. David Che, who oversaw the team's performance.

Team members include Brad Mutschler of Baden, PA, Christian Hosbac of Jeannette, PA, Sarah Garlow of Poca, WV, Oliver Onufer of Pittsburgh, PA, Alyssa Pogozelec of Wampum, PA, and Clinton Bettner of Beaver Falls, PA, as well as advisors Dr. David Che and Dave Clark who also played a role in the competition.

The Baja SAE Competition is for undergraduate and graduate engineering students. The goal for the students is to simulate real-world engineering design project and their related challenges. Each team is competing to have its design accepted for manufacture by a fictitious firm. The teams must utilize their talents to create, build, test and complete a vehicle within the limits of the rules. Those participating must also come up with financial support for their vehicles.

Although a competition, the Baja series is also an opportunity for students to learn the importance of public safety, and create hands on experience for engineering design, fabrication and testing aspects that are a necessity in their field. This alone gives students a new prospective in their field.

This year Geneva's Baja team placed 41st out of 115 teams. Raising the bar from last year where they placed 55th, the teams' best performance came from the rock crawl where they placed 18th.
