Geneva College launches mobile app
Geneva is now more accessible thanks to a new mobile app built for iPhone and Android.
BEAVER FALLS, PA (12/15/2011)(readMedia)-- Geneva College has released a new mobile app, providing convenient access to a variety of resources such as college news, videos, photos, campus maps, social media and more. The Official App of Geneva College is available for free download at the iTunes App Store and the Android Marketplace.
"We are very excited about the new Geneva app, which will enable so many members of our community to remain engaged in Geneva in a number of different ways," says Director of Marketing Services and Public Relations Cheryl Johnston.
The app puts valuable features such as a campus events calendar with interactive dates and descriptions and a detailed directory with phone numbers for all of the departments into the hands of the Geneva community. Phone numbers from the directory can be dialed at the touch of a button. And events can easily be added to a user's calendar on Apple devices. The app also regularly updates Geneva's news, twitter feed and varsity sports information. Additional elements include interactive polls and a "bucket list" of fun activities for current students.
"It is very useful for the campus community," notes Online Marketing Communications Manager Rachel (Sproul '11) Michalko. "Coworkers who have downloaded the app have already come to me saying how impressed they are by the features, especially the directory."
There are also numerous ways for prospective students and visitors to connect to Geneva. A Google Maps interactive tour, complete with building photos and descriptions, is available. Valuable items for students planning to enroll at Geneva include a prospective student checklist, which provides to-do lists for high school juniors and seniors. The admissions feature also offers admissions-specific events, along with an interactive look at the counselors including photos, biographies and contact information.
"The app is very high quality," says Johnston. "We spent a lot of time considering what information was going to be the most helpful for the community, and in our research, we considered a number of different publishers to work with."
Johnston credits Michalko with handling the bulk of research responsibilities, as well as working closely with Straxis Technology in creating the app. She also mentions the contributions of Associate Vice President of Enrollment Dave Layton. "He was very supportive during the planning and production process," says Johnston.
