Gilbert Inducted into 2011 Brevard College Gallery of Distinguished Alumni

BREVARD, NC (10/26/2011)(readMedia)-- Former Parsons resident E. Reid Gilbert was recently inducted into the 2011 Brevard College Gallery of Distinguished Alumni in Brevard, N.C.
Gilbert was one of three Distinguished Alumni recipients who were recognized by the College's Alumni Advisory Board for making significant differences in their communities, professions and the world as well as bringing honor and respect to Brevard College by living out its motto, "Learn in Order to Serve."
Gilbert graduated from Brevard College in 1951. While at BC, Gilbert was a member of the Student Council, Drama Club and Methodist Student Club. He also played on the basketball team and served as a cheerleader.
Gilbert continued his studies at Duke University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology. He also earned a master's degree in Theology from Southern Methodist University, a master's degree in Sacred Theology from Union Seminary and a doctorate in Asian Theatre from the University of Wisconsin.
During his career, Gilbert has held positions within the Methodist and Unitarian ministries, in acting and theatre and as a college professor. He served as the director of Theatre at Lambuth College; co-director of Festival of American Mime at Milwaukee's Performing Arts Center; director of Valley Ridge Theatre in Thomas, W.V.; and administrator of International al Mimes and Pantomimists. Gilbert has also directed and/or performed in more than 50 plays, which range from Shakespeare and Commedia del' arte to experimental and international scripts.
While on Fulbright assignments in India and Thailand, Gilbert gained perspective on his own cultural roots. He has authored two books. His first book, Trickstser Jack, draws on stories from his own childhood and his subsequent work in the Appalachian Mountains. Shall We Gather at the River, Reid's latest book, unfolds in the mountains of Virginia in the 1870s.
