Katie Gildemeyer has been chosen as a captain for Brockport women's soccer
BROCKPORT, NY (09/05/2013)(readMedia)-- Katie Gildemeyer has been chosen as a captain for The College at Brockport's 2013 women's soccer season.
Last season, the forward started in all 20 games for the Golden Eagles. She ranked second on the team in scoring with eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. Gildemeyer was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 20 for her two-goal performance against Plattsburgh that helped Brockport clinch its first ever SUNYAC regular season title.
This year, the Golden Eagles are off to a strong 2-0 start with wins over Muhlenberg and Moravian.
Brockport returns to action at home on Friday against St. John Fisher at 4:30 pm. The game is part of annual Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure breast cancer awareness event. This year, the event has doubled in size and will include Nazareth, Geneseo and St. John Fisher. The squads are playing to support fund raising efforts and help build awareness for the fight against breast cancer. The teams will raise money through donations and t-shirt sales throughout the weekend.
On Saturday, all four teams will head to Brockport for a double header at A. Huntley Parker Jr. Field. The Golden Eagles will take on Nazareth in a 1:30 pm start and then Geneseo will face St. John Fisher at 4:30 pm. All four teams will be wearing commemorative black and pink jerseys for the game donated by The Soccer Shack in Rochester.
