Howard Hammond named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/20/2018) (readMedia)-- Des Moines, IA- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Howard Hammond of Slater as an Iowan of the Day for the 2018 Iowa State Fair.

Howard Hammond served this great country through Army ROTC and in the Korean War. Howard has also served his community as a city council man, mayor, served on the school board, and is a basketball official. He even dances two nights a week!

Howard was instrumental to the development of the Slater Pool and helped establish the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail. A community minded individual, he organized an alliance of individuals for a South Story Co-Hort group. "Howard has great insight into the community and school needs so he was very valuable. He is dependable and has a great vision on every building project," said Jean Saveraid, member of the Ballard Community School District Board of Directors.

Hammond's day of recognition will be on Monday, August 13 at the 2018 Iowa State Fair. He will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:00 p.m. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, he will receive a gift bag, Grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's most outstanding individuals. The program continues to honor Iowans across the state who have made a difference in the lives of others, while upholding the characteristics associated with Iowa- dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.
