SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (06/17/2011)(readMedia)-- Jenna Cameron, a member of the Class of 2011 at Skidmore College, earned academic recognition at the college this spring.
She is the daughter of Ronald and Pamela Cameron of Middlesex.
Cameron earned a B.S. degree summa cum laude with honor in social work at Skidmore's 100th commencement in May. In addition, she received the Hilda Bashevkin Betton '39 and Morris H. Betten Award in Social Work, presented annually to a graduating senior for outstanding interest and achievement in the study of social work at Skidmore.
She earned highest honors for academic work completed this spring.
During her Skidmore career, Cameron was a member of Periclean, Skidmore's own academic honor society, which was formed in 1956 to stimulate intellectual curiosity, encourage creative activity, and honor academic achievement.
Cameron also was a member of the Skidmore Honors Forum, which strengthens the intellectual life at the college and provides positive leadership on campus and in the community. Membership is open to students based on their academic accomplishments and commitment to excellence.
She also was a Skidmore Filene Scholar who received a merit scholarship following a performance competition prior to entering the college. Filene Scholars are not required to major in music but are expected to continue to develop their musical skills and to participate in department ensembles while attending Skidmore.
Founded in 1903, Skidmore College is a coeducational, liberal arts college with an enrollment of approximately 2,400 students. The college grants the bachelor's degree in some 60 majors, including both traditional liberal arts disciplines and preprofessional programs. Skidmore also awards the master of arts in liberal studies degree.
