Jessica Wheeler Named Assistant Director

Former ESPN employee to manage department finances

BROCKPORT, NY (07/25/2011)(readMedia)-- The College at Brockport's Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Noah LeFevre, announced the appointment of Jessica Wheeler as the department's Assistant Director of Athletics for Finance.

Wheeler's day-to-day responsibilities will include managing the finances for the entire department.

Wheeler, originally from Dunkirk, NY, brings professional financial experience to Brockport's Athletics Department.

Prior to Brockport, Wheeler worked as an event supervisor for ESPN Regional Television in Charlotte, NC. As part of her ESPN duties, Wheeler was responsible for facilitating the budget process for all events, coordinating finalized budgets with assorted department heads and ESPN's finance department.

"Jessica brings a wealth of sports business experience to the department," said LeFevre. "She is a terrific addition to the staff."

She managed, planned, executed and oversaw the budget process for several televised competitions, including ESPN's newly-established Cancun Governor's Cup, an eight-team men's college basketball tournament. Wheeler worked closely with both title sponsors and local sponsors, as well as the event promoter and participating teams to ensure the competition ran smoothly and was properly marketed. Wheeler coordinated and supervised the local support staff while handling all marketing efforts associated with the competition.

While at ESPN, Wheeler also supervised ESPNU's Women's Basketball Road to the Championship special. She handled the budgetary process while coordinating the arena staff and orchestrating event functions at the nearby hotels, and her duties also had her mapping out event logistics and travel plans.

Wheeler earned a MBA in Sports Marketing and Management from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She earned her Bachelor's in Business Administration with a Marketing concentration from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Before her work for ESPN, Wheeler served as a MBA intern at Delaware North Companies, Inc. in Buffalo. She extensively studied e-commerce sites and determined which improvements were necessary to ensure increased sales and website awareness while identifying the best practices in the industry.

While at the University at Buffalo, Wheeler served as a graduate assistant in the Athletic Department. She fulfilled the duties of Human Resources Assistant, dealing with employee questions and concerns pertaining to healthcare administration, payroll, hiring processes and compliance with New York State payroll regulations.
