John Stage is the founder and co-owner of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que. Stage, along with two partners, started the business in 1983 by cutting a 55 gallon drum in half and hitting the road doing motorcycle shows, fairs, and festivals up and down the east coast. Stage eventually settled into Syracuse, NY and opened the first Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in 1988. Restaurants in Rochester and New York City opened in the following years.

The Dinosaur Bar-B-Que has become known far and wide for serving what has been nationally acclaimed as some of the best BBQ in the country along with having a vibrant live music scene.

In addition to the restaurants, Stage developed a full line of award-winning all natural sauces and spice rubs available throughout the country and overseas. His cookbook Dinosaur Bar-B-Que: An American Roadhouse has sold over 175,000 copies and was voted cookbook of the year by the National BBQ Association.

A fourth Dinosaur Bar-B-Que is slated to open in Troy, NY in the Spring of 2010.
