CLIFTON PARK, NY (06/18/2009)(readMedia)-- Judi Clements Training & Development was selected by the Elsmere Fire Department in Elsmere, NY to conduct presentation skills training for the Department's select group of trainers. The two part program taught firefighters the basics of preparing and delivering an effective training program. During the second part of the program, the firefighters each presented a 10 minute mini-training program demonstrating the skills they learned.
According to Clements, "Firefighters are given many training materials to use in their classes, but they aren't given the tools to convert these materials into interactive sessions to engage learners." Clements taught the firefighters how to incorporate demonstrations, case studies, Power Point, and role plays into their lessons. She also taught them classroom management skills including how to work with large groups, redirect disruptive participants, and involve reluctant participants.
The hands-on activities in Clements' program also included vocal practice to enhance the trainers' speaking voice and confidence in front of audiences.
