CLIFTON PARK, NY (01/02/2008)(readMedia)-- Judi Clements Training & Development in Clifton Park, NY has developed a new training program for managers who are facing the challenge of leading diverse work teams of multi-generational employees. Clements piloted the program at the NYS Training Council's Annual Conference and has since presented at the Department of Criminal Justice and the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Clements' philosophy of "respect despite differences" encourages managers and front line employees to learn to appreciate the differing viewpoints each generation brings to the workplace and use these differences to increase productivity. Clements urges employees to drop the "my way or the highway" attitude and learn to appreciate opposite approaches to workplace problems.

Clements says the special challenge with this training is to pack a lot of information in a short amount of time. Managers need to develop tolerance before they can encourage it in their employees. They also need to understand that different generations have different values and motivators and that these must be factored if managers are to get the most from their employees. Clements points out that many employee conflicts come from the inability to appreciate another generation’s point of view.

Clements says: "The 21st century workplace has to accommodate all views, all cultures, and all ways of doing business.” Today’s managers must be poised to get employees to work together in harmony with their differences, not despite, their differences.
