Kaitlin Dewey Named Athlete of the Week
Senior gymnast earns national recognition at National Championship meet
BROCKPORT, NY (03/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Kaitlin Dewey (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) broke The College at Brockport's school record in the uneven bars and posted the third-highest All-Around score in school history during the 2010-11 season. After a record-setting year, Dewey was honored by the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) as the Division III National Senior Gymnast of the Year, and she is also Brockport's Female Athlete of the Week.
The Senior Gymnast of the Year award is voted on by coaches during the final day of the national championships. Despite missing the national championships due to a late-season injury, Dewey's season-long numbers were so impressive she garnered the award.
Dewey established career-highs in all four individual events and the all-around during her senior season. She averaged a 9.691 on the floor exercise, a 9.389 on the vault, a 9.294 on the bars and a 9.268 on the balance beam. Her all-around score of 38.550, set during a tri-meet at Southern Connecticut State University on Feb. 12, was the third-best in Brockport history, and her bars score (9.775) set a school record.
