Kharif Pryor Named NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week
BROCKPORT, NY (09/17/2012)(readMedia)-- Freshman Kharif Pryor (Brooklyn, NY/Thomas Jefferson) of The College at Brockport football team has been named Defensive Rookie of the Week by the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). Pryor and the Golden Eagles defeated The College of New Jersey 41-17 on Homecoming Weekend.
Pryor provided a big defensive effort in just his third career game. The freshman came up with two interceptions against the no. 8 ranked offense in Division III. Pryor is the first Golden Eagle to intercept two passes in one game since Derek Austin during the 2009 season against Morrisville.
Pryor intercepted his first pass deep in Brockport territory during the third quarter to stall any chance of a scoring opportunity for the Lions. Pryor's second interception came even deeper in the Brockport zone, intercepting the pass at the Golden Eagle 12 yard line with just over four minutes left in the game. Pryor also added one pass break-up and three total tackles on the day.
As a team, the Golden Eagles intercepted four TCNJ passes on the day. The four interceptions are the most for a Brockport defense since Nov. 14, 2009 when the Golden Eagles picked off four Buffalo State passes.
The Golden Eagles have now had at least one player earn a weekly award from the NJAC in each of the first three weeks of the season. Quarterback Joe Scibilia (North Tonawanda, NY/Starpoint) was named Offensive Player of the Week in each of the first two weeks.
Brockport returns to action next Saturday as the Golden Eagles travel to Kean University for the NJAC matchup at 12:00 pm.
