Kyle Smith Named Athlete of the Week at Brockport
Senior breaks the single-season strikeout record
BROCKPORT, NY (05/03/2011)(readMedia)-- Senior Kyle Smith (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) broke one of the oldest school records at Brockport when he registered seven strikeouts in a 3-2 victory over Oneonta Saturday afternoon. The seven K's bring his season total to a school-record 69 strikeouts. Smith has been selected as the Brockport Male Athlete of the Week.
The previous record of 68 strikeouts in a season was set back in 1976 by Brian Meyl.
Smith moved to 8-1 on the season with the victory and helped the Golden Eagles clinch second place in the final SUNYAC regular-season standings as the team advanced to the SUNYAC Tournament that begins Friday in Cortland.
